Who We Are
Jumbo Flooring is a Johannesburg-based epoxy flooring contractor with over 35 years of experience in the commercial and industrial sector. We are not a general building contractor who offers flooring as one of many services. We are flooring specialists. Everything we do is floor-related, and every project we take on is executed by our own trained workforce.
Our work spans the full range of South Africa’s commercial and industrial floor environments: warehouses and logistics facilities, food processing plants, pharmaceutical manufacturing, automotive workshops, factories, hospitals, laboratories, retail environments, parking structures and more. Each of these sectors places different demands on a floor, and correct specification is the difference between a system that performs for 15 years and one that fails in 18 months.
We do not sell flooring products. We do not offer residential services. Our focus is entirely on installing the right commercial and industrial floor system for the right application.
What Jotun Accreditation Means for Your Project
Jotun accreditation is not a marketing label, it is a formal approval by the manufacturer confirming that Jumbo Flooring’s teams meet the installation standards required for Jotun floor systems to perform as specified and warranted. For clients in regulated industries like pharmaceutical manufacturing, food processing, hospitals, accredited installation is often a requirement of the relevant compliance framework. For all clients, it means the product warranty is backed by a correctly executed installation.
How We Work
Every Jumbo Flooring project follows the same process, regardless of scale. There are no shortcuts, and nothing is passed to a subcontractor.
Site assessment before specification
We assess your floor condition, operational requirements, compliance obligations and installation constraints before recommending a system or providing a price. The specification comes from understanding the facility — not from a standard product menu.
Correct surface preparation
The most common cause of epoxy floor failure is inadequate surface preparation, not the product itself. We diamond grind or shot blast every floor to the surface profile the system requires. Concrete repairs, crack injection, spall patching and joint treatment are completed before any coating is applied. We do not coat over a substandard substrate.
In-house installation — no outsourcing
Our preparation crews, application teams, plant and project management are all employed by Jumbo Flooring. When you appoint us, our people are on site from day one to final handover. There are no subcontracted grinding crews, no third-party applicators, no split accountability.
Specification for compliance, not just performance
Many of our clients operate in regulated environments: food processing under HACCP and R638, pharmaceutical manufacturing under GMP and SAHPRA requirements, hospitals under infection control standards, and all industrial facilities under the OHS Act. We specify floor systems that meet these requirements and provide the documentation to support compliance audits.
Minimal operational disruption
Active warehouses, factories, food plants and commercial facilities cannot always shut down for a floor installation. We plan installations in phases, around shift patterns, over weekends, or using rapid-cure systems to minimise downtime. The programme is agreed with you before work starts.
The Sectors We Work In
Each of the industries below places specific and different demands on a floor. Hygiene requirements, chemical exposure, load types, compliance frameworks and cleaning regimes all vary. We specify accordingly — not from a standard catalogue, but from an assessment of what your facility actually needs.
• Warehouses & Distribution Centres
• Manufacturing Plants
• Food Processing Facilities
• Automotive Workshops
• Pharmaceutical Facilities
• Hospitals & Laboratories
• Logistics & Transport
• Parking Garages & Basements
• Engineering Workshops
• Commercial Kitchens
• Mining & Industrial Facilities
Why Correct Specification Matters
Epoxy flooring is not a commodity. Two facilities of identical size can require completely different floor systems depending on what happens inside them. A food processing plant needs a seamless, HACCP-compliant polyurethane screed with coved wall junctions and anti-slip aggregate in wet zones. A pharmaceutical cleanroom needs a smooth, non-particle-shedding epoxy with anti-static properties and a verified chemical resistance profile. A heavy engineering workshop needs a high-build epoxy mortar that can absorb point loads and impact without cracking.
Applying the wrong system — or the right system over unprepared substrate — produces a floor that fails prematurely. That failure costs more to rectify than the original installation, disrupts operations a second time, and in regulated environments creates compliance and audit exposure.
Our 35-year history in industrial sectors in South Africa means we have seen what works, what fails, and why. That experience goes into every site assessment and every specification we produce.
We do not quote over the phone or from floor plans alone.
Every quotation follows a site visit and substrate assessment. We will not speculate on a price before we have assessed the actual condition of your floor and understood the operational demands it must meet.
Where We Work
Jumbo Flooring is headquartered in Johannesburg and the majority of our project work is across Gauteng, covering the East Rand (Ekurhuleni), West Rand, Midrand, Centurion and Pretoria industrial and commercial nodes.
For large-scale industrial projects we work nationally. Food processing, pharmaceutical and mining sector clients have engaged us for facilities in the Western Cape, KwaZulu-Natal, the Eastern Cape and Limpopo. Project size and scope determine whether a national project is viable — contact us to discuss.
Discuss Your Flooring Requirements
Tell us about your facility and what you need from the floor. We will assess the site and come back with a specification and a price that reflects what the job actually requires.
